Book Club!

Just over a year ago, I created a pseudo-book club online called “A Good Book”. I’m happy to say, “A Good Book” is still going strong with 34 members and constantly growing.

We are a “pseudo” book club since we don’t all read the same book at the same time, but instead work off of several book lists so that you can choose what you want to read and discuss it when you want to.

Here’s the description on the site:

“For those who just seek a good book.

We are an online book club without a specific focus. We read anything and everything from the classics to modern fiction to biographies to fanfiction. We enjoy reading everything from Shakespeare to Stephen King, from Gulliver’s Travels to the Twilight series.

Multiple book discussions will be going on simultaneously, and the discussions will be forever open. This means you can be as active as you want to be, or as your time allows. You can read books at your own pace, and you can take part in only the discussions you choose. Additionally, you can recommend books that you have already read, and feel that others should read, without having to skip a few weeks of discussion while everyone else reads it. You can recommend it, and then read a different book and join its discussion while you wait.

This isn’t a place for book snobs or pretentiousness. We won’t always be looking for the deeper meaning, or picking apart novels to find the symbolism. While deep discussions are encouraged, so are the not-so-deep ones…such as “I liked it! The characters were great. So and so was my fav.” No need to be fancy. And no comments are too “lame”.

Our goal is just to encourage each other to read a variety of books, expand our horizons and most importantly just to find a “good book”.

Choosing Books: We’ll have running themes such as “Books that take place on the Ocean” or “Books from ‘1001 Books to Read Before You Die’.” Everyone will be encouraged to recommend a book that applies to that theme. And then a list of books for that theme will be posted in the files section.”

One of my goals is to join a book club, but I was having a hard time finding one that fit with what I wanted to read and my schedule. This is perfect!
